Statement as of 11:12 AM MST on December 22, 2009 ... Winter Weather Advisory now in effect until 5 am MST Wednesday... The Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect until 5 am MST Wednesday. * Location... this Winter Weather Advisory is in effect to the lower elevations of the eastern San Juan Mountains. * Cause and timing... snow will develop later this morning and last into Wednesday morning. Periods of heavy snow will be possible. * Snow accumulation... total snowfall accumulations of 4 to 8 inches can be expected... with locally up to 10 inches across the higher elevations. * Wind... southwest winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph will cause areas of blowing and drifting snow... especially this afternoon and evening. * Impact... travel may become hazardous at times... especially over North Pass. Precautionary/preparedness actions... If you are planning to travel in the advisory area during the time of the advisory... listen to the latest weather forecast and consider traveling at another time or by another Route. |
