Warnings and Notices
Severe Thunderstorm Warning
Statement as of 2:22 PM MDT on July 12, 2009
... A Severe Thunderstorm Warning remains in effect until 315 PM MDT
for north central El Paso County...
At 220 PM MDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar continued to
indicate a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter size
hail... and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. This storm was
centered near Peyton... or 21 miles northeast of Colorado Springs...
and was moving toward the east at 10 mph.
Locations impacted include...
Ramah.
Calhan.
At 210 PM MDT a trained spotter reported 3/4 inch diameter hail 5
miles west northwest of Peyton. This storm could intensify and
produce larger damaging hail.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
If possible... without risking your safety... protect property before
the weather hits. Get in a sturdy structure and away from windows. An
interior room on the lowest floor... or a basement can offer the best
protection.
