Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday, February 14, 2012. Valentine's Day will be greeted by a storm that will begin the day in the Mississippi Valley before moving eastward into the eastern third of the country. In the colder air to the north, snow is expected to fall through the Ohio Valley before moving into the Northeast in the evening. The warmer air to the north will only allow areas of light to moderate rain to form from Louisiana through the Carolinas. By the end of the day, much of the precipitation from this storm will be off the eastern seaboard, leaving warmer air in the Southern Plains and much colder air in the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest.

In the West, a storm will track through the Great Basin before slamming into the Rockies, where it will produce much needed high elevation snow. This will not be a tremendous snow producer, but several inches of the white stuff is expected.

Late in the day, a Pacific storm will make its approach to the West Coast. As the storm moves inland, it will instigate rain and high elevation snow in Washington and Oregon. This storm will be the next rain producer for California on Wednesday.

The Northeast will rise in to the 30s and 40s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. The Northern Plains will rise into the 30s and 40s, while the Northwest will see temperatures in the 30s and 40s.

* Waves and surf: 6 to 8 feet with occasional higher sets.

* Tides: high tide early Tuesday morning of 5.3 feet around 145
am. Low tide Tuesday morning of 0.5 feet around 900 am.

* Timing: through 10 am Tuesday.

* Impacts: high surf... strong rip currents and dangerous swimming
conditions. Inexperienced swimmers and surfers should stay out
of the water.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing rip currents and localized beach
erosion.

... High wind watch in effect from late Wednesday night through
Thursday afternoon...

The National Weather Service in San Diego has issued a high wind
watch... which is in effect from late Wednesday night through
Thursday afternoon.

* Winds: areas of northeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 70 mph.

* Location: through and below passes and canyons and near coastal
foothills.

* Timing: winds developing late Wednesday night with strongest
winds Thursday morning.

* Impacts: the winds will make driving difficult... especially for
motorists with high profile vehicles. Watch for broken tree
limbs and downed power lines.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous
high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph... or gusts of
58 mph or stronger may occur. Continue to monitor the latest
forecasts.

... A pair of cold storms will impact Southern California through
Wednesday night...

The first of a pair of cold low pressure systems from the north will
move through southwest California this afternoon through early
Tuesday. It is expected to bring numerous showers along and west of
the mountains this afternoon and evening with snow levels lowering
to 4000 to 4500 feet. There is also a slight chance of thunderstorms
with small hail late this afternoon through tonight. There will also
be strong gusty west winds in the mountains and deserts through late
tonight with strongest winds this evening. There will also be gusty
west winds near the coast this evening. Showers may linger over
southern areas into Tuesday.

A second cold low pressure system from the north is expected for
Wednesday and Wednesday night. It is expected to be similar to the
storm for today... except slight colder... stronger... and faster.
