Beach Hazard Statement
Statement as of 2:27 PM PDT on March 27, 2015

... Beach hazards statement remains in effect through Sunday
afternoon...

* hazards and timing... mixed northwest and southwest swell through
the weekend. Surf will range from 4 to 6 feet along exposed west
facing shores today. Locally generated northwest swell will
build tonight through Saturday night and surf is expected to
build to 6 to 8 feet along exposed northwest facing shores
Saturday and then persist through Sunday. Frequent strong rip
currents... strong long- shore currents are likely this weekend.

* Tides... the lower high tide is expected to occur each evening
with the higher high tide occurring each early morning through
Sunday.

* Impacts... elevated surf will bring strong rip currents and
long-shore currents to area beaches... along with a risk of
sneaker waves. Long period swell also causes more powerful
surf and a potential for minor beach erosion during times of
high tide.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A beach hazards statement is issued when threats to beach and
surf zone safety are expected or occurring. Caution should be
used when in or near the water. Stay near occupied lifeguard
towers and never swim alone. If caught in a rip current... swim
parallel to the shore.
