Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Friday, May 25, 2012.

Expect more active weather to develop across the Great Lakes on Friday, as a low pressure system moves from the Upper Midwest into eastern Canada. This system will push a cold front over the Great Lakes and Midwest, producing scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. There is a slight chance that some of these storms will turn severe with strong winds and large hail. Rainfall totals will range from 1 to 2 inches, with over 2 inches likely in areas of severe weather development.

Behind this activity in the West, a low pressure system will move over the Great Basin and into the Southern Rockies. Flow around this system will produce cooler temperatures across the West, while also triggering scattered showers over the Pacific Northwest, northern California, and Intermountain West. Snow showers may develop again across the highest elevations of the Northern Rockies.

Meanwhile in the East, high pressure builds from the Plains, over the Mississippi River Valley, and into the Eastern US. This will keep moisture away to the north, allowing for dry, sunny, and warm conditions. High temperatures will range in the 80s and 90s from the Central Plains through the Eastern Valleys, with parts of the Southern US reaching into the lower 100s.

... Much cooler with a chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms Friday...

An unseasonably cold weather system will rapidly approach the Bay
area overnight... arriving by Friday morning. Rain showers
currently associated with this system are being reported in
southern Oregon with radars west of Cape Mendocino starting to
pick up returns. The main impact of the system will be cool
temperatures and a continuation of the breezy to locally windy
weather we've been having the last few days.

Skies will start out sunny but with cold morning temperatures in
the upper 30s and 40s for many portions of the Bay area. By
mid-morning the core of the system will pass overhead with very
unstable air aloft. This will allow for cumulus cloud development
over the hills of the Bay area. Rain showers will be possible
through the afternoon hours... especially over the hills but its
possible that any showers could drift over the valleys. Anybody
with outdoor interests such as camping our hiking on Friday should
be prepared for unseasonably cool... possibly wet and windy weather.

Finally... the latest computer model projections have been
consistent in showing an above average chance of thunderstorms
over the far eastern portions of our district... roughly running
southward form the hills of Napa County through the far East Bay
valleys and continuing southward over the higher and mostly
unpopulated areas of Santa Clara and San Benito counties. These
far eastern counties of the Bay area will have the best chance for
seeing thunderstorms roughly from 2 PM to 7 PM Friday afternoon
and evening. Freezing levels will drop to around 6000 feet so ice
pellets and small hail will be possible in some of the heavier
cells along with dangerous cloud to ground lightning.

Any hail that falls on roads can quickly lead to traffic
accidents... especially on the get away Friday of a three day
Holiday weekend. The National Weather Service and California
Highway patrol urge motorists to slow down and stay abreast of the
latest forecast information before heading out this Holiday
weekend. As a reminder... folks heading to the Sierra should expect
winter weather conditions Friday night into Saturday with snow
over the trans-Sierra passes. There are currently snow advisories
in effect for that West Slope of the Sierra until 6 PM Friday.

... Beach hazards statement remains in effect for high bacteria through
Tuesday morning...

* location... Stillwater Cove.

* Timing... until further notice.

* Impacts... contact with contaminated ocean water may cause
illness.

* Source... this information is being transmitted at the request
of the Monterey County health department. For more information
visit www.Mtyhd.Org/beach (all lower case) or call 1-800-347-
6363.

Precautionary/preparedness actions... a beach hazard statement for
a beach bacteria warning means that at least one bacterial
Standard has been exceeded... but there is no known source of
human sewage. A beach warning alerts the public of a possible
risk of illness associated with water contact. Warning may also
be posted where sources of contamination are identifiable and can
be explained as not of human origin (e.G... . resident marine
mammals or seabirds). Please avoid contact with the water at this
time.
