A cold low pressure system over the Gulf of Alaska will approach
California Wednesday night. As the cold front moves through interior
central California Wednesday night into Thursday... light to moderate
precipitation is possible over the mountains.
In the southern Sierra Nevada... rain and snow will begin in the
Yosemite park area by Wednesday night. Occasional light to
moderate showers are possible near the cold front as it moves
south across the region Wednesday night through Thursday morning.
Snow levels will start out around 7000 feet and quickly drop down
to around 5000 feet over the southern Sierra by Thursday morning
behind the cold front. Showers are expected to linger over the
Sierra during the day Thursday. Snowfall accumulations of 2 to 4
inches are possible above 7000 feet between Wednesday night and
Thursday afternoon. Around 1 inch of snow is possible as low as 5000
feet by Thursday afternoon in the Yosemite park area. Southwest
wind gusts up to 50 mph also are possible over the higher terrain
with this system. The snowfall and the gusty winds will bring
winter driving conditions to the Sierra which may impact travel
near the Tioga Pass Wednesday night and Thursday.

Wednesday night into Thursday... be prepared for winter driving
