Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Friday, May 25, 2012.

Expect more active weather to develop across the Great Lakes on Friday, as a low pressure system moves from the Upper Midwest into eastern Canada. This system will push a cold front over the Great Lakes and Midwest, producing scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. There is a slight chance that some of these storms will turn severe with strong winds and large hail. Rainfall totals will range from 1 to 2 inches, with over 2 inches likely in areas of severe weather development.

Behind this activity in the West, a low pressure system will move over the Great Basin and into the Southern Rockies. Flow around this system will produce cooler temperatures across the West, while also triggering scattered showers over the Pacific Northwest, northern California, and Intermountain West. Snow showers may develop again across the highest elevations of the Northern Rockies.

Meanwhile in the East, high pressure builds from the Plains, over the Mississippi River Valley, and into the Eastern US. This will keep moisture away to the north, allowing for dry, sunny, and warm conditions. High temperatures will range in the 80s and 90s from the Central Plains through the Eastern Valleys, with parts of the Southern US reaching into the lower 100s.

Wind Advisory
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 1:45 PM PDT on May 24, 2012

... Wind Advisory in effect from 1 PM MST /1 PM PDT/ to 10 PM MST
/10 PM PDT/ Friday...

The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a Wind
Advisory... which is in effect from 1 PM MST /1 PM PDT/ to 10 PM
MST /10 PM PDT/ Friday.

* Affected area... southwest and south central Arizona as well as the
lower deserts of southeastern California. This includes the greater
Phoenix area as well as the communities of Imperial... Gila
Bend... Casa Grande and Yuma.

* Timing... winds will steadily increase during the morning hours on
Friday and peak by early afternoon with strong gusty winds to
continue into the evening hours.

* Winds... south to southwest winds 20 to 35 mph gusting to near 50
mph especially in favored wind prone area or higher terrain
locations.

* Impacts... strong winds will kick up areas of blowing dust and sand
which will sharply lower visibility and create dangerous driving
conditions. Southerly Crosswinds will affect high profile traffic
on east-west oriented roads such as interstates 8 and 10. Drivers
of high profile vehicles should drive with caution.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that sustained wind speeds of between
30 and 40 mph are expected... or wind gusts of between 40 and
58 mph. Winds this strong can make driving difficult... especially
for high profile vehicles. In addition... strong winds over desert
areas could result in briefly lowered visibilities to well under
a mile at times in blowing dust or blowing sand. Use extra
caution.

Fire Weather Warning
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 8:25 PM PDT on May 24, 2012

... Red flag warning remains in effect from 11 am to 8 PM PDT
Friday for strong winds... low relative humidity and very high
fire danger for southeast California...

* affected area... in California... Joshua Tree National Park and
Imperial County and eastern Riverside County.

* Winds... southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

* Timing... strong gusty winds will develop during the morning
hours... with the strongest winds expected in the afternoon and
early evening.

* Relative humidity... as low as 13 percent.

* Impacts... fuels are very dry and fire danger is high. These
conditions... combined with low relative humidity and strong
winds will lead to widespread hazardous fire weather
conditions.

* Impacts... very dry vegetation combined with low humidity and strong
winds will create conditions conducive to rapid fire growth and
spread.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Please advise the appropriate officials and fire crews in the
field of this red flag warning.
