Tropical Weather: Invest 94 (North Atlantic) Hurricane Bud (East Pacific) Typhoon Sanvu (Western Pacific)
Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Friday, May 25, 2012.

Expect more active weather to develop across the Great Lakes on Friday, as a low pressure system moves from the Upper Midwest into eastern Canada. This system will push a cold front over the Great Lakes and Midwest, producing scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. There is a slight chance that some of these storms will turn severe with strong winds and large hail. Rainfall totals will range from 1 to 2 inches, with over 2 inches likely in areas of severe weather development.

Behind this activity in the West, a low pressure system will move over the Great Basin and into the Southern Rockies. Flow around this system will produce cooler temperatures across the West, while also triggering scattered showers over the Pacific Northwest, northern California, and Intermountain West. Snow showers may develop again across the highest elevations of the Northern Rockies.

Meanwhile in the East, high pressure builds from the Plains, over the Mississippi River Valley, and into the Eastern US. This will keep moisture away to the north, allowing for dry, sunny, and warm conditions. High temperatures will range in the 80s and 90s from the Central Plains through the Eastern Valleys, with parts of the Southern US reaching into the lower 100s.

Wind Advisory
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 6:53 PM PDT on May 24, 2012

... Wind Advisory remains in effect until 11 PM PDT Friday...

A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 11 PM PDT Friday for the
western Mojave Desert.

* Winds: west winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

* Timing: winds will increase this evening and remain strong
through much of the night. There may be a bit of a lull for a
few hours late tonight and early Friday but winds will increase
again by late Friday morning... before decreasing late Friday evening.

* Locations: barston... Daggett... Fort Irwin.

* Impacts: strong winds will create potentially hazardous
driving conditions especially for high profile vehicles such
as motor homes and those vehicles towing trailers or boats.
Motorists should be prepared for these conditions along area
roads including Interstate 15. Areas of blowing sand and
dust will be possible... especially near Dry Lake beds with
visibilities reducing at times due to the blowing sand and
dust.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that Crosswinds are expected to be strong
enough to make driving difficult... especially for high profile
vehicles. In addition... strong winds over desert areas could result
in briefly lowered visibilities to well under a mile at times in
blowing dust or blowing sand. Use extra caution.

Fire Weather Warning
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 2:42 PM PDT on May 24, 2012

... Red flag warning remains in effect until 11 PM PDT Friday for
strong winds and low relative humidity for fire weather zones
226... 227... 228 and 229...

* affected area... in California... fire weather zone 226 Owens
Valley/southern Inyo Forest... fire weather zone 227 Death
Valley National Park... fire weather zone 228 Mojave Desert and
fire weather zone 229 lower Colorado River valley.

* Timing... red flag criteria is expected to be met as winds
increase across Southern California by late this afternoon
ahead of an unseasonably strong area of low pressure. Gusty
winds will subside slightly in some areas and rh values may
recover briefly overnight to below criteria... but will easily
meet criteria again by late Friday morning areawide.

* Wind... southwest to west 15 to 25 mph with gusts around 35 mph
today... and gusts up near 50 mph on Friday. The east slopes of
the Sierra may see their strongest winds tonight when gusts to
60 mph are possible.

* Humidity... minimum values 8 to 15 percent.

* Impacts... the combination of gusty winds... low relative
humidity and dry fuels will create conditions that are
favorable for extreme fire behavior.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring or are imminent. A combination of strong
winds... low relative humidity... and warm temperatures will create
extreme fire growth potential.

Record Report
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 5:00 am PDT on May 24, 2012
