Statement as of 2:35 PM PST on December 08, 2009 ... Freeze warning remains in effect from 10 PM this evening to 9 am PST Wednesday... ... Freeze warning in effect from 10 PM Wednesday to 9 am PST Thursday... The National Weather Service in Hanford has issued a freeze warning for the central and southern San Joaquin Valley... which is in effect from 10 PM Wednesday to 9 am PST Thursday. The freeze watch is no longer in effect. A freeze warning for the central and South Valley remains in effect from 10 PM this evening to 9 am PST Wednesday. A very cold airmass remains in place across the valley. Coldest temperatures of the current freeze will likely occur tonight. * For tonight: temperatures could bottom out as low as 21 or 22 degrees in normally coldest areas. Durations of 28 degrees or lower will be from 4 to 9 hours... with a total duration below freezing of up to 13 hours. * For Wednesday night: while there is still uncertainty on the timing of the arrival of clouds from an approaching weather system... clear skies Wednesday evening will allow strong cooling especially in the outlying rural areas. If the clouds do not arrive before daybreak... the coldest locations could see lows in the 25 to 29 degree range with durations below 28 degrees of 3 to 6 hours. The total duration below freezing could be 9 to 12 hours. Be prepared to continue protective measures. With the subfreezing temperatures and any frost... there will be the threat of black ice on valley roads both Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Bridges and overpasses will be especially susceptible for the formation of black ice. Drivers in the central and southern San Joaquin Valley should exercise caution during the morning commute over the next two days. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation. Exposed water pipes may be harmed. Take precautions now to protect freeze sensitive plants and livestock. Also remember to provide shelter for your pets or bring them inside. Weather.Gov/Hanford |
