Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, May 24, 2012.

Rain and thunderstorms will continue across parts of the Midwest and Central Plains on Thursday as low pressure forms along a cold front extending through the Central U.S. The heaviest amounts of rain are anticipated near the front in areas of northern Wisconsin, southern Minnesota and Iowa. There is a slight risk of severe storms for the Upper and Mid-Mississippi Valleys Thursday afternoon and night with damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes.

In the West, a strong storm system will drop southward from the Gulf of Alaska on Thursday. This system will lead to an increase in showers and possible thunderstorms across the Pacific Northwest and Northern Intermountain West. The colder airmass accompanying this system will lower snow levels in the mountains and cause temperatures to run about 10 degrees below normal for this time of year. Meanwhile, winds will pick up across the rest of the West, increasing fire danger potential across the Southwest and parts of southeastern Utah and southwestern Colorado.

In the East, light showers and afternoon thunderstorms will remain possible across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states. To the south, heavy rain and strong thunderstorms with gusty winds are expected to continue across the southern tip of Florida. Saturated grounds from heavy rainfall that occurred during the last couple of days combined with Thursday\'s rainfall will continue flood concerns near Miami-Dade County.

Wind Advisory
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 3:02 AM MDT on May 24, 2012

... Wind Advisory remains in effect from 8 am to 11 PM MST
Friday...

A Wind Advisory remains in effect from 8 am to 11 PM MST Friday.

* Timing... strong and gusty winds will develop early Friday
morning and continue into Friday evening.

* Winds... south to southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts to
55 mph will occur Friday morning into Friday evening. Even
stronger winds will occur in the mountains.

* Impacts... the strong winds will create blowing dust along
highways which could reduce visibilities to less than a
quarter mile in areas prone to blowing dust. These areas
include but are not limited to Interstate 10 between Tucson
and Phoenix as well as between Benson and the New Mexico
border. In addition... the winds will make driving difficult
for high profile vehicles.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of 30 mph or greater
are expected in the valleys... or 35 mph or greater above
5000 feet. Higher gusts are also likely. This could make driving
difficult... especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra
caution.

Fire Weather Warning
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 3:37 AM MDT on May 24, 2012

... Red flag warning remains in effect from 11 am this morning to
8 PM MST this evening...
... Red flag warning remains in effect from 8 am to 11 PM MST
Friday...

A red flag warning remains in effect from 11 am this morning to
8 PM MST this evening. A red flag warning remains in effect from
8 am to 11 PM MST Friday.

A red flag warning remains in effect from 11 am to 8 PM MST
today. A red flag warning also remains in effect from 8 am to 11 PM
MST Friday.

* Affected area... the red flag warning today and Friday is in
effect for Pima and southeast Pinal counties.

* Timing... critical fire weather thresholds are expected to be met
by the late morning hours... and continue through early evening
today. Friday... critical fire weather thresholds are expected
to be met by the mid-morning hours... and persist through the
late evening.

* Winds... today... expect sustained 20-foot southwest winds of 20
to 30 mph with gusts to near 40 mph. Friday... sustained 20-foot
south to southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55
mph. The strongest winds are expected across the eastern
portions of the warned area each day.

* Relative humidity... minimum relative humidity values will be in
the single digits to lower teens today and Friday.

* Impacts... any fires that develop will have the potential for
rapid spread. Ongoing fires may experience rapid and erratic
fire growth. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now... or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds... low relative humidity... and warm temperatures will
create the potential for rapid and erratic fire growth.

Please advise the appropriate officials or fire crews in the
field of the red flag warning for portions of Southeast Arizona.
