... Wind Advisory in effect from 10 am to 6 PM MST Saturday...
The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a Wind Advisory... which is in effect from 10 am to 6 PM MST Saturday.
A strong low pressure system will take shape over the western states the next couple of days. This system will be responsible for creating strong and gusty winds by late Saturday morning and continuing through the afternoon hours. West winds will increase by afternoon to between 20 and 30 mph with some gusts to over 40 mph possible.
A Wind Advisory means that sustained wind speeds of between 30 and 40 mph are expected... or wind gusts of between 40 and 58 mph. Winds this strong can make driving difficult... especially for high profile vehicles. In addition... strong winds over desert areas could result in briefly lowered visibilities to well under a mile at times in blowing dust or blowing sand. Use extra caution.
Fire Weather Watch
Statement as of 5:26 AM PDT on October 10, 2008
... Fire Weather Watch in effect from Saturday morning through Saturday afternoon for southeast California... eastward to the south-central Arizona deserts for strong winds... low relative humidities... and a high fire danger...
The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Yuma and vicinity... the lower Colorado River valley... southwest and south-central deserts... and Imperial and eastern Riverside counties for Saturday morning through Saturday afternoon. A strong pressure gradient will develop across the area behind the cold front. This will lead to sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts to near 40 mph. In addition... rh values less than 15 percent may develop during the afternoon. The combination of strong winds and low humidity values may create widespread hazardous fire weather conditions.
Please advise the appropriate officials and fire crews in the field of this Fire Weather Watch.
