Tropical Weather: Subtropical Storm Beryl (North Atlantic) Tropical Depression Bud (East Pacific) Typhoon Sanvu (Western Pacific)
Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday, May 26, 2012.

Subtropical Storm Beryl formed late Friday off the Carolina Coast and is expected to move slowly southwestward over the weekend. The storm may maintain tropical storm strength as it approaches the northeast coast of Florida later Sunday night. The storm itself may dump a significant amount of rain on this part of Florida and adjacent areas of Georgia, potentially good news to an area that is currently in an exceptional drought.

The main weather feature over the nation will be a low pressure system moving off the Rockies and into the Plains on Saturday. Flow around this system continues pushing a warm front eastward, over the Plains and through the Midwest. Expect widespread showers and thunderstorms to develop along this frontal boundary, from the Northern and Central Plains through the Great Lakes. Some of these storms will turn severe with strong winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall. Severe thunderstorms are most likely over Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. By Saturday evening, the tail end of this system will reach the Northeast, bringing lighter and more widespread showers and thunderstorms to the region.

The back side of this broad low pressure system will continue pulling cool air in from Canada. This will allow for rain showers to turn to snow showers at the highest elevations of the Northern Rockies, Intermountain West, and Central Rockies. At the same time, strong and gusty winds will persist for the southern side of this system. In combination with warm and dry conditions, this will maintain high fire danger for the Southwest and Southern Rockies.

Wind Advisory
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 2:28 AM MDT on May 26, 2012

... Wind Advisory in effect from 11 am this morning to 8 PM MST
this evening...

The National Weather Service in Tucson has issued a Wind
Advisory... which is in effect from 11 am this morning to 8 PM MST
this evening.

* Timing... winds will increase this morning... with strongest winds
during the afternoon and early evening hours.

* Winds... southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph.
Even stronger winds will occur in the mountains.

* Impacts... the strong winds will create areas of blowing dust
which could reduce visibilities to less than a quarter mile in
areas prone to dust storms. This includes but is not limited to
Interstate 10 between Benson and the New Mexico border. In
addition... the winds will make driving difficult for high
profile vehicles.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of 30 mph or greater
are expected in the valleys... or 35 mph or greater above
5000 feet. Higher gusts are also likely. This could make driving
difficult... especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra
caution.

Fire Weather Warning
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 7:57 PM MDT on May 25, 2012

... Red flag warning remains in effect from 11 am to 8 PM MST
Saturday for Graham... Greenlee and Cochise counties...

... Red flag warning that was previously in effect until 11 PM MST
this evening has been cancelled...

* affected area... fire weather zone 146 and eastern fire weather
zone 148.

* Timing... critical fire weather thresholds are expected to be
met by 11 am MST Saturday and will continue through early Saturday
evening.

* Winds... sustained 20-foot west to southwest winds of 20 to 25
mph with gusts up to 45 mph on Saturday.

* Relative humidity... minimum relative humidity values will be in
the single digits to lower teens Saturday.

* Impacts... any fires that develop will have the potential for
rapid spread. Ongoing fires may experience rapid and erratic
fire growth. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now... or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds... low relative humidity... and warm temperatures will
create the potential for rapid and erratic fire growth.

Please advise the appropriate officials or fire crews in the
field of the red flag warning for portions of Southeast Arizona.
