... Very cold and dry conditions Friday night with increasing chances
of precipitation early next week...

An upper level low pressure system and associated dry cold front is
expected to move across the region tonight... bringing very dry and cooler
conditions through this weekend. On Friday night... the dry and cool
air mass will lead to minimum temperatures in the upper 20s to upper
30s across the lower deserts of Arizona and southeast California.
Forecast low temperatures for Saturday morning include 37 at
Phoenix... 33 at Imperial... 31 at Blythe and Casa Grande... and 30 at
Gila Bend.

At this time... forecast low temperatures will fall just short of
freeze warning criteria. However... sub-freezing conditions may still
occur for a brief period of time... and residents should be prepared
to take appropriate action should a freeze warning eventually be
needed.

Another significant change in the weather pattern will occur later in
the weekend into early next week... as a strong low pressure system
developing over the Pacific northwest begins to spread subtropical
moisture into the area. The low is expected to move into the
southwest United States Monday and Tuesday... producing scattered
showers over the lower deserts... and numerous showers over the higher
terrain east of Phoenix. At this time... the best chances for rain
appear to be Monday night into Tuesday. Locally heavy rainfall will
be possible across the higher elevations north and east of Phoenix.

The weather pattern is expected to remain active over the western
United States through the latter part of next week. High
temperatures should remain below seasonal normals during that time
period.
