Tropical Weather: Tropical Cyclone Giovanna (South Indian Ocean) Tropical Cyclone Jasmine (Southern Pacific)
Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, February 13, 2012.

The trough of low pressure that brought unsettled weather to the West on Sunday will advance into the Plains on Monday with more mixed precipitation. The trough will support a low and associated warm front moving eastward into the Southern Plains. As the system progresses, rain showers with periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms will spread from parts of central/eastern Texas into western Louisiana, mixed precipitation will develop in parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas, and snow will blanket parts of the Central Plains, Mid-Mississippi Valley, and parts of the western Ohio Valley. Areas from eastern Texas through Arkansas should expect the heaviest precipitation totals. Heightened winter weather conditions will allow Winter Weather Advisories and a few Winter Storm Warnings to remain in effect through the day. Elsewhere east of the Continental Divide, lake-effect snow showers will continue along parts of the Lower Great Lakes Snowbelt.

In the West, a Pacific cold front pushing across the Pacific Northwest will drop southward across northern California, bringing coastal and valley rain and significant snowfall to the Sierra Nevadas.

Public Information Statement
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 6:48 am CST on February 13, 2012

... Public information statement...

... Continuing severe weather awareness week in Louisiana...

Todays topic is NOAA Weather Radio...

NOAA Weather Radio is the voice of the National Weather Service. The
National Weather Service broadcasts uninterrupted weather information
directly to the public 24 hours per day. NOAA Weather Radio is the
fastest way to receive warnings of hazardous and potentially deadly
weather events. Thus... NOAA Weather Radio saves hundreds of lives
each year.

NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts on seven vhf frequencies ranging from
162.400 to 162.550 megahertz. These broadcasts can generally be
received up to 40 miles from the transmitter site... but can vary
depending on the quality of your receiver... local terrain and
atmospheric conditions.

NOAA Weather Radio programming includes...
... Weather statements... watches and warnings.
... Location... movement and impacts of threatening weather.
... Current weather conditions and local forecasts.
... Civil emergency messages and Amber alerts.
... Local climate data.

Watches and warnings are tone alerted to activate the NOAA Weather
Radio receivers with a built in tone alert feature.

The National Weather Service recommends that everyone have a NOAA
Weather Radio in their home or business. These radios may be
purchased at your local electronic stores... any department store and
even on the internet. In the future... NOAA Weather Radio technology
will even be incorporated into some new televisions and on cell
phones.

The National Weather Service would like to thank everyone involved in
making severe weather awareness week a Success.
