Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, February 13, 2012.

The trough of low pressure that brought unsettled weather to the West on Sunday will advance into the Plains on Monday with more mixed precipitation. The trough will support a low and associated warm front moving eastward into the Southern Plains. As the system progresses, rain showers with periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms will spread from parts of central/eastern Texas into western Louisiana, mixed precipitation will develop in parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas, and snow will blanket parts of the Central Plains, Mid-Mississippi Valley, and parts of the western Ohio Valley. Areas from eastern Texas through Arkansas should expect the heaviest precipitation totals. Heightened winter weather conditions will allow Winter Weather Advisories and a few Winter Storm Warnings to remain in effect through the day. Elsewhere east of the Continental Divide, lake-effect snow showers will continue along parts of the Lower Great Lakes Snowbelt.

In the West, a Pacific cold front pushing across the Pacific Northwest will drop southward across northern California, bringing coastal and valley rain and significant snowfall to the Sierra Nevadas.

Winter Storm Warning
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 9:53 PM CST on February 12, 2012

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 4 am to 6 PM CST
Monday...

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 4 am to 6 PM CST
Monday.

* Timing... precipitation will begin falling between midnight and
6 am in the warned area. The precipitation is expected to be
in the form of snow through the early afternoon... then
transition to a mix of snow... sleet and possibly freezing rain
by mid to late afternoon before tapering off during the
evening hours. Light drizzle or freezing drizzle will be
possible Monday night.

* Snow accumulations... two to four inches of snow and sleet are
expected... with the heaviest totals in the higher elevations
of the Ouachita and Ozark mountains. Isolated totals of five
inches could occur.

* Ice accumulations... after precipitation changes to freezing
rain... some ice accumulation will occur. Accumulation is
expected to range around a tenth of an inch... with isolated
higher totals possible.

* Impact... travel conditions will be treacherous starting late
tonight and continuing into Monday... as roadways become ice
and snow covered.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow...
sleet... and ice are expected or occurring. This will make travel
very hazardous or impossible.
