At 9:50 am...National Weather Service Doppler radars indicated scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms across portions of northeast Oklahoma. These showers and thunderstorms were located along and north of a line from Bristow to near Welch. Isolated showers have also been trying to develop across east central Oklahoma...north of a McAlester to Tahlequah line. All of this activity was moving northeast at 25 mph. Through 11 am...showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue develop and spread across portions of eastern Oklahoma and move into northwest Arkansas. Locations to be affected will be mainly along and to the north of the Interstate 44 corridor...with isolated activity along and north of a McAlester to Bentonville line. Rainfall amounts will generally be up to a tenth of an inch...although hourly amounts of a quarter inch will be possible beneath the heavier showers and thunderstorms.

Sponsors of the awareness week are the National Weather Service... the Arkansas department of emergency management... entergy Arkansas... the electric cooperatives of Arkansas... the Arkansas National guard... the Arkansas State Police... and the American Red Cross. During each weekday... a different winter weather topic will be covered in a public information statement issued by the National Weather Service... Monday... the outlook for the coming winter Tuesday... winter precipitation types Wednesday... winter weather watches... warnings... and advisories Thursday... winter weather safety rules Friday... severe weather in the winter The purpose of winter weather awareness is to remind people of The Hazards winter weather can pose.
