The National Weather Service in Little Rock has issued an
* urban and small stream flood advisory for... Lonoke County in central Arkansas Pulaski County in central Arkansas
* until 815 PM CDT
* at 622 PM CDT Doppler radar indicated that strong thunderstorms have dropped rainfall amounts of over one inch in the past hour... with locally higher amounts near two inches. Much of this rainfall has fallen over urban areas of Little Rock and North Little Rock... including the downtown areas. Additional rainfall of generally around an inch is expected as these storms move slowly southeast at 15 mph into portions of southern Lonoke County.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on small creeks and streams... and ponding of water in urban areas... highways... streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage areas and low lying spots.
Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

At 611 PM CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Little Rock National Airport... moving southeast at 15 mph.
Wind gusts up to 40 mph are expected with this storm... as well as torrential rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour.
Areas that will be affected include Little Rock... North Little Rock... Sherwood... Little Rock National Airport... Terry lock and dam... Scott... Toltec Mounds State Park and Keo.
Frequent... dangerous lightning is occurring with this storm. If outdoors... stay away from isolated high objects such as trees. Move indoors if possible. When indoors... stay away from windows and doors and avoid using telephones unless it is an emergency.
Torrential downpours may cause localized minor flooding in urban and low lying areas. Motorists should be advised to expect reduced visibility due to the very heavy rain.
