Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, February 12, 2012.

The East dries out on Sunday, but wet weather continues moving through the West. A trough of low pressure advances eastward over the Great Basin and Central Rockies, producing moderate snow showers over Utah and Colorado. Winter weather advisories have been issued for parts of western Colorado as snowfall accumulations may reach from 6 to 8 inches by Sunday evening. Most of Utah, western Wyoming, and northern New Mexico should see lighter snow showers with accumulation around 1 to 2 inches. The tail end of this trough will extend into western Texas, bringing snow and freezing rain showers into northwestern Texas. Precipitation from this system will move into the Texas Panhandle late Sunday into Monday morning. Winter storm warnings have been issued for the region as 3 to 5 inches of snow are possible, with ice accumulations from 0.10 to 0.30 inches by Sunday evening. This will cause dangerous roads and travel conditions.

Meanwhile, another trough of low pressure and associated cold front approach the West Coast on Sunday. This system will reach the coasts of the Pacific Northwest and northern California in the afternoon and evening hours, bringing more rain showers. Temperatures will remain cool over most of the West Coast as this system pushes clouds and moisture onshore.

In the East, a strong ridge of high pressure allows for dry, sunny, and cool weather to persist. This system creates strong flow from the north, pushing cold air into the Plains and Eastern Valleys. Expect highs to range in the 20s in the Midwest, while the Ohio River Valley and Tennessee Valleys will see highs in the 30s. Freeze advisories have been issued for the Gulf states as low temperatures will drop into the 20s Sunday night. Dangerous fire conditions spread over the Southeastern states due to high pressure creating a very dry airmas with strong winds.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 6 am to 6 PM CST
Monday.

* Timing... sleet and snow will begin after midnight tonight
across west central Arkansas... and after sunrise across
central and eastern Arkansas. As warmer temperatures above the
surface move north... the snow and sleet will mix with freezing
rain by mid day... and continue through the afternoon hours.
The precipitation will begin to taper off in the evening...
with drizzle or freezing drizzle possible Monday night.

* Snow accumulations... snow accumulations ranging from a trace up
to 2 inches will be possible before precipitation changes to a
mix of rain... freezing rain... and sleet.

* Ice accumulations... ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an
inch are possible... although just a few hundredths will be more
common.

* Impact... travel conditions will be treacherous starting late
tonight and continuing into Monday... as roadways become ice
and snow covered.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow... sleet... or
freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while
driving.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Cache River near Patterson.
* Until further notice... or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 10:00 am Sunday the stage was 10.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 8.0 feet.
* Forecast... the river will continue a slow fall through the middle
of the week.
* Impacts at 10.0 feet... pastureland and cropland not protected by levees
in Jackson and Woodruff counties affected. Water is deep along the shoulders
of State Highway 18 near Grubbs. Water over portions of Woodruff County
Road 775 north of State Highway 260.

* Flood stage is 26.0 feet.
* Forecast... the river will continue a slow fall through the
first half of the week.
* Impacts at 30.0 feet... thousands of acres of farm ground flooded.
County roads on both sides of the river are flooded... including County
Road 871 and 899.
