* From Thursday afternoon through late Thursday night
* a strong cold front will impact the Tennessee Valley on Thursday with one to locally three inches of rainfall falling Thursday afternoon and evening. The majority of this rain will fall over a period of only a few hours... and given this short duration and already wet soils... flash flooding is possible across the entire area Thursday afternoon and evening. Even as the rainfall tapers with the passage of the cold front early Christmas day... runoff will continue into creeks and streams... enhancing the river flood threat from Christmas day into the weekend.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
