... The Flood Warning remains in effect until 430 PM CST for urban
areas and small streams in southern Blount... southeastern Walker...
northern St. Clair... Jefferson... eastern Tuscaloosa... northwestern
Shelby... northwestern Bibb and northern Hale counties...
At 233 PM CST... tropical rains continue falling across parts of
central Alabama. The tropical system Ida has become an extratropical
system... but additional light to moderate rain will fall for
several more hours. Radar estimates that 2 to 4 inches of rain have
already fallen across the warned area... and another 1.5 inches of
rain is possible this afternoon. Ponding of water in low lying areas
and stream rises are likely... and some flooding may occur.
A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
However... all interested parties should take necessary precautions
immediately.
Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.
Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.
