* a Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for all of southeast
Mississippi... southwest Alabama and northwest Florida through
midday Tuesday... due to excessive rainfall produced by Tropical
Storm Ida. Ida is expected to move onshore late tonight across
southern portions of Mobile or Baldwin County Alabama. Rainfall
totals of 4 to 6 inches will be possible across much of the
forecast area through Tuesday morning as the heavier rainband
associated with Ida moves onshore over the Florida Panhandle
through late evening and then moves slowly northward across the
region through late tonight. Previous rainfall over the past 12
hours has already approached 1 to 2 inches over many of the same
locations.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flash flooding is observed act quickly. Move
up to higher ground to escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas
subject to flooding when water begins rising.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

... Tropical Storm Wind Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST

... New information...
at 10 PM CST... the center of Tropical Storm Ida has become elongated
and poorly defined and is now estimated to be located near latitude
29.5 north... longitude 88.5 west... or about 55 miles south-southwest
of Dauphin Island Alabama. Ida has slowed down and is now moving to
the north near 13 mph and a further decrease in speed is expected
overnight with a turn toward the north- northeast. Maximum sustained
winds are near 65 mph with higher gusts and some weakening is
expected overnight.

... Winds...
gusts to tropical storm force will continue to spread into inland
southeast Mississippi... inland southwest Alabama and south central
Alabama through midnight. The winds will begin to subside over southeast
Mississippi and extreme southwest Alabama late tonight into Tuesday
morning... then subside over south central Alabama during the day on
Tuesday. Wind gusts to 40 to 50 mph will be possible until the winds
subside on Tuesday.


... Inland flooding...
current rainfall rates are one inch per hour or less but higher
rainfall rates are expected to spread inland during the overnight
hours. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for southwest Alabama and
the northwest Florida Panhandle through noon Tuesday. Rainfall totals
of 3 to 6 inches... with locally higher amounts around 8 inches... can
be expected. Listen for possible flood warnings for your
location... and be ready to act should flooding occur.
