Statement as of 3:42 PM CST on December 17, 2009 ... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect from midnight CST tonight through Friday morning... The Flash Flood Watch continues for * portions of central Alabama... east central Alabama and southeast Alabama... including the following areas... in central Alabama... Lowndes and Montgomery. In east central Alabama... Lee... Macon and Russell. In southeast Alabama... Barbour... Bullock and Pike. * From midnight CST tonight through Friday morning * a storm system moving towards the Florida Panhandle will spread rain into South Alabama tonight and into Friday. Some of the rainfall will be heavy at times... possibly producing flash flooding in and close to the watch area. Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are forecast in the watch area. * Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of floods and flash floods. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
