... Wind Advisory remains in effect until midnight CST tonight...
A Wind Advisory remains in effect until midnight CST tonight.
A strengthening low pressure system to the west of Alabama will cause a tight pressure gradient across central Alabama today. This tight gradient has already created sustained winds between 10 and 20 mph with higher gusts today. Sustained winds will increase to 20 to 25 mph this afternoon with gusts of 35 to 40 mph lasting through midnight tonight. Wind gusts up to 50 mph will be possible at higher elevations.
High volumes of traffic are expected across area roadways today. Those traveling on east to west oriented roads and bridges could encounter strong cross winds. High profile vehicles should take extra caution.
Other concerns include any loose yard furniture... trash cans and Holiday decorations that will easily be blown around if not properly secured... as well as the chance of power outages if downed trees happen to fall on power lines.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of 17 mph and higher... or wind gusts of 30 mph and higher... are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult... especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
