Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, February 13, 2012.

The trough of low pressure that brought unsettled weather to the West on Sunday will advance into the Plains on Monday with more mixed precipitation. The trough will support a low and associated warm front moving eastward into the Southern Plains. As the system progresses, rain showers with periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms will spread from parts of central/eastern Texas into western Louisiana, mixed precipitation will develop in parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas, and snow will blanket parts of the Central Plains, Mid-Mississippi Valley, and parts of the western Ohio Valley. Areas from eastern Texas through Arkansas should expect the heaviest precipitation totals. Heightened winter weather conditions will allow Winter Weather Advisories and a few Winter Storm Warnings to remain in effect through the day. Elsewhere east of the Continental Divide, lake-effect snow showers will continue along parts of the Lower Great Lakes Snowbelt.

In the West, a Pacific cold front pushing across the Pacific Northwest will drop southward across northern California, bringing coastal and valley rain and significant snowfall to the Sierra Nevadas.

Special Statement
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 3:48 PM CST on February 12, 2012

... Another freeze expected tonight across southeast
Mississippi... southern Alabama and the western Florida Panhandle...

... Temperatures in the middle 20s expected for several inland
locations tonight... with upper 20s possible just north of the
coast...

Arctic high pressure will continue to build into the deep south
tonight. Temperatures will drop to overnight lows in the middle
twenties north of Interstate 10... with a few locations well inland
and other normally colder spots possibly dipping into the lower
twenties. Upper twenties to lower thirties can be expected along the
coast.

Everyone should continue to take adequate safety precautions with
their heating systems tonight... and make sure to utilize Carbon monoxide
detectors in enclosed spaces. Extra caution should be used with
portable space heaters. Make sure space heaters are not left
unattended and are not used near flammable materials such as curtains
or bed coverings. Damage likely to any early new growth of sensitive
vegetation left unprotected again tonight.

During this period of cold weather... check on elderly neighbors to
make sure they have adequate heat. Outdoor pets should also have
adequate warmth. Area shelters should continue to expect increased
demand.

Fire Weather Warning
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 9:22 PM CST on February 12, 2012

... Red flag warning remains in effect from 11 am to 5 PM CST
Monday for portions of south central and southwest Alabama for long
duration of low relative humidity below 25 percent...

* humidity... dropping below 25 percent by 11 am Monday and staying
below 25 percent until 5 PM Monday.

* Impacts... any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that dangerous fire weather conditions are
either occurring now... or likely will occur. A combination of low
relative humidity and warm temperatures will create explosive fire
growth potential.
