Statement as of 4:17 AM CST on November 09, 2009 ... Flood Watch in effect from this evening through Tuesday afternoon... The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a * Flood Watch for portions of central Alabama... east central Alabama... northeast Alabama and southeast Alabama... including the following areas... in central Alabama... Autauga... Blount... Chilton... Coosa... Dallas... Elmore... Jefferson... Lowndes... Montgomery... Shelby... St. Clair and Talladega. In east central Alabama... Calhoun... Chambers... Clay... Cleburne... Lee... Macon... Randolph... Russell and Tallapoosa. In northeast Alabama... Cherokee and Etowah. In southeast Alabama... Barbour... Bullock and Pike. * From this evening through Tuesday afternoon * as Hurricane Ida makes landfall through the overnight hours on Monday... heavy rain is expected to spread across much of the eastern half of central Alabama Monday night through the day on Tuesday. Rainfall totals from 3 to 6 inches are likely... with possibly higher amounts in localized areas within the effected counties. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop. |

The lake Wind Advisory is now in effect from noon today to 6 PM CST Tuesday. Sustained easterly winds of 10 to 20 mph can be expected by Monday afternoon through the day on Tuesday. A few wind gusts around 25 to 30 mph are possible. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A lake Wind Advisory indicates that winds will cause rough chop on area lakes. Small boats will be especially prone to capsizing. |
