Tropical Weather: Post-Tropical Cyclone Alberto (North Atlantic) Tropical Storm Bud (East Pacific) Tropical Storm Sanvu (Western Pacific)
Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday, May 22, 2012.

Tropical Storm Alberto is expected to weaken to tropical depression strength on Tuesday as it accelerates northeastward through the western Atlantic Ocean. This system is expected to continue on a northeastward track through Wednesday and dissipate by Thursday. For more information on Tropical Storm Alberto and other tropical activity, please visit http://www.wunderground.com/tropical.

Meanwhile, a cold front pushing across the Eastern Valleys will reach the Eastern Seaboard with more unsettled weather activity. The front will stir up scattered showers and thunderstorms from portions of the Lower Great Lakes and Northeast southward into the Southeast and Central Gulf Coast states through the day. Areas along the Gulf Coast and across much of Florida and Texas will remain hot on Tuesday as daytime highs reach into the upper 80s and 90s.

To the west of this activity, a cold front will cross the Northwest, bringing rain showers with afternoon and evening thunderstorms to parts of the Northern Intermountain West and Northern Rockies. This frontal system will merge with another disturbance dropping out of southern Canada as it progresses eastward. Expect thunderstorm activity to spread into the Northern Plains ahead of this system. Storms in this region may turn severe with very large hail and damaging wind gusts. Meanwhile, a stronger front from the Pacific will reach the Pacific Northwest with a cooler airmass and precipitation.

Elsewhere in the West, temperatures across the Desert Southwest will climb into the 100 to near 110 degree range on Tuesday.

Weather Service in Huntsville... in coordination with surrounding NWS
offices and feedback from local residents... will be making an
adjustment to the Cullman all hazards NOAA Weather Radio /162.450
mhz/ transmitter that will enhance the dissemination of weather
warning information for the people in and around the Cullman NWR
listening area.

In addition to its current broadcast of weather information...
beginning June 1, 2012... tornado warnings /tor/, severe thunderstorm
warnings /svr/, and severe weather statements /svs/ that are issued
for both Walker and Winston counties... will be broadcast on the
Cullman NWR transmitter.

Summary of changes to Cullman NWR on June 1, 2012:

NWS short-fused warnings/statements counties added
----------------------------------- --------------
Tornado Warning /tor/ Walker & Winston
Severe Thunderstorm Warning /svr/ Walker & Winston
severe weather statement /svs/ Walker & Winston

Note:
the tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings will both interrupt the
normal broadcast cycle and tone alert on the Cullman NWR transmitter.

Additional note for programming purposes:
for those in the Cullman NWR transmitter listening area that want to
be alerted for warnings in Walker & Winston counties... the specific
message area encoder /same/ "code" for Walker County is: 001127 and
for Winston county: 001133.

While the actual coverage area or footprint of this transmitter has
not changed drastically... the addition of counties warned on the new
Cullman transmitter is designed to provide better service to
listeners at the outer edges of the coverage area. By providing
warnings for counties typically upstream from or adjacent to these
locations... more advanced notice can be given of impending weather
hazards which will allow more time for listeners to take immediate
action to seek shelter.

Listeners are encouraged to reference our NWR webpage to ensure
their NWR receivers are programmed properly and provide the best
service possible. The NWS Huntsville NOAA Weather Radio webpage is:
