Weather Underground Forecast for Friday, May 25, 2012.

Expect more active weather to develop across the Great Lakes on Friday, as a low pressure system moves from the Upper Midwest into eastern Canada. This system will push a cold front over the Great Lakes and Midwest, producing scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. There is a slight chance that some of these storms will turn severe with strong winds and large hail. Rainfall totals will range from 1 to 2 inches, with over 2 inches likely in areas of severe weather development.

Behind this activity in the West, a low pressure system will move over the Great Basin and into the Southern Rockies. Flow around this system will produce cooler temperatures across the West, while also triggering scattered showers over the Pacific Northwest, northern California, and Intermountain West. Snow showers may develop again across the highest elevations of the Northern Rockies.

Meanwhile in the East, high pressure builds from the Plains, over the Mississippi River Valley, and into the Eastern US. This will keep moisture away to the north, allowing for dry, sunny, and warm conditions. High temperatures will range in the 80s and 90s from the Central Plains through the Eastern Valleys, with parts of the Southern US reaching into the lower 100s.

... Flood Advisory remains in effect until 415 PM akdt Friday for the
Buckland river at Buckland...

The ice jams above and below the Village of Buckland continue to
hold. As of Thursday afternoon... officials in the Village report
that water has dropped about a foot since Wednesday. Approximately
70 percent of the homes in Buckland have water underneath them. Some
residents need to use canoes to move from some parts of town to the
Airport... but no homes have water in them at this point. Water
levels will remain high until the ice jam downstream of the Village
releases.

Residents should use caution when crossing flooded roads. Water
sources may be impacted by flood waters.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood
warnings. People living in flood prone areas should be prepared to
take action if water levels continue to rise and flooding develops.

... First significant rainfall of the season in the eastern interior...

A slow moving weather system over the eastern interior brought the
first significant rainfall of the season to the region. During the
past 24 hours... rainfall amounts from one half to more than an
inch have fallen over portions of the uplands between the Tanana
and Yukon rivers. This influx of moisture will result in rising water
levels on rivers draining the uplands. This includes the
goodpaster... Salcha... chena... and Chatanika rivers.

Flooding is not expected but the higher water may increase the
amount of debris coming down the river. The heaviest rain fell
over the headwaters of the goodpaster river and the river will be
near bankfull into Saturday. Additional rain is forecast over
the goodpaster basin again Saturday night and Sunday... and another
period of high water is possible late this weekend.
