... Blizzard Warning in effect until 5 am akst Friday for Thompson Pass...
A Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 5 am akst Friday.
Fresh snow fell in the wake of a storm system that dissipated
early this morning. Another storm in the Gulf is continuing to strengthen
this evening. Blizzard conditions initially will be due to an
increasing pressure gradient which will produce strong north
winds of 30 to 45 mph by this evening through Thompson Pass. This
will result in the fresh snow being picked up and blown
around... occasionally reducing visibility to one quarter mile or
less. Later this evening... steadier snow will again begin to fall
as the storm advances north. The strong winds will continue... and
coupled with periods of heavy snow will sustain the blizzard
conditions overnight Thursday into early Friday through Thompson
Pass. Winds will diminish and precipitation will taper to lighter
showers early Friday morning... bringing an end to the blizzard
conditions.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to white-out
conditions... making travel extremely dangerous. All travel and
outdoor activity is strongly discouraged.
