Areal Flood Advisory
Statement as of 4:56 PM AKST on November 09, 2009
... Flood Advisory in effect from 440 PM akst to 645 PM akst Tuesday
for the Tanana river at Salcha...
The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has issued a
* Flood Advisory for ice jam flooding in Salcha including the
piledriver Slough area
* until 645 PM akst Tuesday
* an ice jam on the Tanana river remains in place near the upstream
end of piledriver Slough. Water levels have fallen a bit today...
but piledriver Slough still is carrying a little flow... and a few
yards are flooded. The situation remains dynamic... with some
channels of the Tanana river nearly ice free... and others choked
with ice. Rapid changes in water level occur when ice jams form on
the Tanana river... particularly this time of year. As of Monday
afternoon... no roads or driveways in the area were known to be
flooded. More serious flooding remains possible.
* Minor flooding is expected to continue through Tuesday... and
probably longer.
