Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Friday, May 24, 2013.

Showers and thunderstorms will move into the Plains, while also continuing across the East Coast on Friday. A low pressure system over the Rocky Mountains will persist on its eastward track and move into the Plains. Flow around this system will create northward flow, pulling abundant moisture and energy in from the Gulf of Mexico. This will allow for scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop across the Southern Plains again on Friday, spreading northward through the Central and Northern Plains. There is a slight chance that these storms will turn severe across northeastern Colorado, into western Kansas and Nebraska. Large hail and strong winds are likely in these areas, with possibly a tornado or two.

Meanwhile in the East, a trough of low pressure and associated cold front will slowly move eastward and offshore the East Coast on Friday. This system will allow for showers and thunderstorms to persist from the Mid-Atlantic states through Maine. Severe thunderstorms are not likely in these areas, but periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds will persist as this system lingers over the Northeast through Friday night.

Out West, an area of low pressure continues spinning over the Pacific Northwest, maintaining onshore flow. This will bring more rain showers to Oregon and Washington, with snow showers possible at highest elevations.

Areal Flood Watch
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 4:33 AM AKDT on May 24, 2013

... Flood Watch remains in effect until 4 PM akdt this afternoon
for the Yukon river from Beaver to Rampart...

The Flood Watch continues for

* the Yukon river from Beaver to Rampart.

* Until 4 PM akdt this afternoon

* as of 4 PM Thursday... an ice jam remains in place at the mouth
of hodzana Slough approximately 25 miles downriver from
Beaver. Ice is shifting and moving on the Yukon river between
the ice jam and the Dalton Highway bridge. Some shifting of
ice has also been observed at Rampart.

* A significant amount of water is backing up behind the ice jam
at hodzana Slough causing minor flooding of low lying areas.
Water levels are also slowly rising at Beaver but the river
level remains below flood stage. Water levels at Beaver will
continue to rise and there is a threat of flooding until the
ice jam releases.

Additional ice jams are possible from Stevens Village to
Rampart and may result in flooding as well. If an ice jam
forms... water levels could rise rapidly and flooding could occur
in this area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be
alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to
flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding
develop.
