... A lack of snowfall at Fairbanks so far this winter...
Only 11.5 inches of snow has been observed so far this winter at the Fairbanks International Airport. This is 17.2 inches below average... and only 40 percent of the average amount of snow that typically falls through this point in the season.
Most of the snow at Fairbanks typically falls during the first half of the winter season... with nearly 2/3's of the annual snowfall occurring prior to the first of the year.
The weather pattern during the next several days does not look favorable for any significant snowfall. There maybe a little light snow Sunday into Sunday night... but any accumulations will be minor.
Another Chinook is expected early next week... and temperatures on the hills around Fairbanks may again climb to near or a little above freezing on Tuesday or Tuesday night. The Chinook will cause strong southerly winds over the Alaska Range that will cause the air to dry and warm... and will keep the middle Tanana Valley dry.
