... Coastal Flood Watch in effect from Tuesday afternoon through
Wednesday afternoon north of Icy Cape...
The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has issued a coastal
Flood Watch... which is in effect from Tuesday afternoon through
Wednesday afternoon.
A frontal system will be approaching the coast Tuesday afternoon
increasing the winds from the southwest to 25 to 30 kts north of
Icy Cape with possible gusts to 35 kts further offshore. A storm
surge of 4 to 6 feet is possible Tuesday night through Wednesday
morning near shore with higher swells offshore. Winds will begin
to diminish to 20 kts Wednesday afternoon which will reduce the
storm surge by late Wednesday afternoon.
A coastal Flood Watch means that conditions favorable for
flooding are expected to develop. Coastal residents should be
alert for later statements or warnings... and take action to
protect property.
