Special Statement
Statement as of 4:44 PM AKDT on June 02, 2015

... Strong wind and heavy rain ahead for coastal southcentral...

Rapid water and fast rises are a possible concern along the
eastern Kenai Peninsula Thursday. We are predicting more than 2.5
inches of rain to fall near Seward... Portage... and Whittier
Wednesday through Thursday. Heaviest rain will occur Wednesday
night and Thursday. We do not anticipate any flood concerns at
this time... though those recreating in and near area streams
should use caution.

Also of concern is unusually strong wind for this time of year in
Prince William Sound and along the north Gulf of Alaska coast.
Wind will increase to gale force Wednesday evening in Prince
William Sound and storm force for the outside waters. We expect
gusts exceeding 60 mph near Hinchinbrook Entrance late Wednesday
night. Wind will diminish late Thursday.

Also of note will be gusty wind in Anchorage. The hillside and Turnagain
Arm will see southeast wind increasing beginning Wednesday
afternoon... gusts to 50 mph are forecast as the wind peaks
Wednesday night. South and west portions of Anchorage will also be
breezy with gusts to 25 mph.

This forecast... which is atypical for the beginning of June... is
due to an area of low pressure that will intensify as it moves
into the Gulf of Alaska Wednesday... then near Seward Thursday.
