The high surf advisory is now in effect until midnight akst tonight.
A strong low pressure system moved onshore near Nome today. Storm force winds behind the system will continue to produce high surf along the kuskokiwm Delta coast through this evening. By midnight the winds will weaken and surf will return to near normal levels.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area... producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.

A strong weather front moving through the Susitna Valley and the Kenai Peninsula this afternoon brought very windy conditions to the Anchorage bowl. Warning level wind gusts of 82 mph occurred on the hillside at Glen Alps and 81 mph along Turnagain Arm at McHugh Creek. Winds have since diminished.
The Susitna Valley received a considerable amount of snow with this system. Reported snow accumulations this afternoon ranged from 6 inches near Amber Lake to 14 inches at Chulitna in the northern Susitna Valley. Snow will continue to taper off over the Susitna Valley through this evening as the weather front moves toward the Copper River basin.
