... Flood Watch remains in effect through Tuesday evening for
the Yukon river at Circle...
The Flood Watch continues for
* the Yukon river at Circle.
* Through Tuesday evening
* the Yukon river ice started moving in Eagle early Friday
morning may 17th. The ice moved for three hours before a jam
formed downstream. Eagle experienced moderate flooding until
the jam broke free several hours later. The condition of the
ice between Eagle and Circle could contribute to the formation
of additional ice jams.
* The breakup front is expected to move past Circle sometime
early next week. If additional ice jams form upstream of
Circle... a surge of water may move downriver when the ice jams
release. When the breakup front moves past Circle... water
could start rising rapidly if ice flows back up behind the
breakup front.
The river watch team will continue to monitor conditions on the
river between Eagle and Circle.
Residents near the river in Circle should monitor conditions and
take precautions to protect life and property. Water levels can
rise very quickly when an ice jam occurs downstream of a
community.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
