...First measurable snowfall of the season for Anchorage...

The official National Weather Service Sand Lake snow observing site measured 0.6 inches of snowfall on the 19th of October. This makes it the first official measurable snowfall of the season. Since midnight...another 1.5 inches has fallen. The highest snow totals have been confined to a very narrow corridor from Portage Valley...along Turnagain Arm...and south and west Anchorage including the hillside.
