Public Information Statement
Statement as of 10:30 PM CDT on May 15, 2008
... Damage survey has been completed in Jackson Parish Louisiana...
A National Weather Service meteorologist concluded that the damage... which occurred Tuesday night /may 13 2008/ east of Jonesboro Louisiana... was the result of damaging straight-line winds.
Two separate areas of sporadic /mainly tree/ damage were found. The first... was focused along la-147 from Whitman Road to the Walker community. The other damage region was focused along la-4 from Rome Road to la-810 in the Weston community.
In both of these regions... trees were either uprooted or snapped in an orientation consistent with the motion of the severe thunderstorm. Some of the most significant damage... however... was found just outside of the Walker community... where a very large Hardwood tree was uprooted and barely missed a Mobile home. Wind speeds between 90 and 100 miles an hour were estimated to have occurred with this thunderstorm.
Your National Weather Service wishes to thank everyone associated with the damage assessment today.
