Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday, May 22, 2012. Tropical Storm Alberto will accelerate northeastward away from the Georgia and Carolina coasts on Tuesday. While small fluctuations in strength may occur along the system's northeastward track, no major strength changes are anticipated. Maximum sustained winds are expected to reach to 46 mph during the day with higher gusts. Tropical Storm Alberto could become post-tropical by Wednesday as it moves into colder water, before possibly dissipating on Thursday. Meanwhile, in the Caribbean, a trough of low pressure in the northwestern Caribbean Sea will produce scattered moderate to isolated strong convection in the northwestern Caribbean Sea and western Cuba. To the south, more scattered light to moderate showers are expected in Central America and the southwestern basin. Finally, the pressure gradient between this trough of low pressure and high pressure in the Atlantic Ocean will maintain moderate to fresh trade winds across the Caribbean Sea.

For South America, typical rain and thunderstorms will develop in the northern countries of the continent, while high pressure provides generally calm conditions to southeastern Brazil. To the south, light showers with chances of thunderstorms will continue across Paraguay into Uruguay, clipping areas of Buenos Aires. Further south, windy conditions with increased cloud cover and light showers are expected for southern Chile and portions of southern Argentina.
