Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday, May 22, 2012.

Wet weather continues in Japan on Tuesday as a low pressure system located just south of Kyushu lifts northeastward. As the system progresses northeastward and curves up the eastern coast of Honshu, winds wrapping around the system and an associated warm front will spread rich moisture across Honshu through the day, allowing light to moderate rain showers to form in much of northern Honshu. Heightened instability throughout the northern portion of the island may also stir up clusters of thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening. Behind the departing system, drier air will spread into Kyushu and Shikoku, allowing chances of precipitation to taper down through the day.

To the west, high pressure will continue to dominate the Korean Peninsula with dry conditions and fair skies. Expect a modest cooling trend in the region through the mid-week as the system weakens. Meanwhile, to the north, a low pressure system along the northeastern border of Mongolia will swing a cold front through the northeastern provinces of China. Light rain showers are expected to form ahead of this front, from parts of Heilongjiang through Liaoning.

To the south, after a few patchy, lingering showers, generally fine conditions are expected in southeastern China.

For Australia, high pressure dominates much of the nation with generally dry and calm conditions. A few light coastal showers are anticipated along the Queensland coast, north of Brisbane. South of the mainland, a low pressure system ushers a cold front through the Great Australian Bight to Tasmania. The cold front will bring chances of showers to Tasmania and southern Victoria, while the tight pressure gradient between the high and low pressure system creates windy conditions in the Bight, Tasmania, and Victoria.
