Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, May 21, 2012. No tropical activity is expected through the tropical Caribbean Sea Ocean on Monday, but there will be areas of other activity.

The tropical season got off to a bit of an early start on Saturday as a tropical disturbance off the Carolina Coast became Tropical Storm Alberto. The storm is expected to slowly make its way up the eastern seaboard over the next couple of days, possibly skirting the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Meanwhile, ample tropical moisture in the western Caribbean Sea will continue to produce widespread showers and thunderstorms from Jamaica to the Yucatan Peninsula. The strongest of these thunderstorms will fall over open water, but strong thunderstorms over Central America south of Mexico cannot be ruled out. In addition, moisture in the eastern Pacific Ocean will stream into these same areas of Central America, further increasing these thunderstorms.

For South America, windy conditions are expected for southern Chile and southern Argentina, but will mainly affect largely uninhabited areas. A high pressure system will stretch from central Chile through central Argentina, while a storm will move through Uruguay and into the Atlantic Ocean on Tuesday.

This will translate to rain and thunderstorms from northern Argentina through Uruguay and Buenos Aires. This rain will be moderate in nature. In addition, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected for the Sao Paulo region, including Rio De Janeiro.

Rio De Janeiro will rise into the upper 70s(F)/mid-20s(C), while Buenos Aires will see temperatures in the lower 60s(F)/mid-10s(C). Santiago, Chile will rise into the mid-60s(F)/upper 10s(C).
