Scientific Forecaster Discussion
Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Birmingham Alabama
1150 PM CST sun Dec 8 2013
for 06z aviation.
Surface analysis this evening continues to show a weak surface
trough across the central portion of the area...with dewpoints
increasing from the low 40s across the northwest to middle 60s in the
southeast. Widespread rainfall will continue along and north of
the boundary as jet structures and isentropic lift combine to
provide a continued moisture feed and lift to the area. Surface
boundary should start a slow push eastward Monday morning as high
pressure builds toward the area.
With moist surface conditions and light winds...added fog to the
forecast overnight for all areas in addition to widespread
rainfall across the northwestern two thirds of the area. Made
minor adjustments to temperatures and dewpoints as well. Updates are out.
06z taf discussion.
A variety of conditions currently across the terminals at this
hour. A few thunderstorms will be possible over the next hour or
so at keet and kanb as the line of showers and storms slowly moves
to the east. Still expect the majority of conditions overnight
will be IFR/LIFR with plenty of low level moisture and isentropic
ascent. Precipitation will also continue during the majority of the
taf cycle with less confidence for precipitation across the
southern terminals. The front will finally begin to move to the
east after sunrise and winds will switch around to the northwest
by this afternoon across the majority of the terminals.
